Reflections
“I do not want Knowledge of Design to be only an event. I want it to become something permanent, with conversations and knowledge continuing throughout the year.”
“That is why we love Knowledge of Design. Design is omnipresent. It is everywhere, and people have to see it that way.”
“You can take one phenomenon and explore it from multiple perspectives, incorporating the entire STEAM experience around it. That is a strong starting point for Knowledge of Design.”
“The theme moves the conversation about the future away from prediction and toward production. It asks not only what future we imagine, but how those futures become real and who participates in making them.”

What design means
“The challenging part about design is that it is very broad. When I say design, it may mean something different than what is in your mind. The aim of Knowledge of Design is to broaden this perspective, to get us all into this broad looking. Design is when we create something in this life, whether it is a product, a program, an idea, or a concept.”

“Design is not only for designers. Design is for everybody. This event created a space where neuroscientists, engineers, architects, and students could all be in the same room.”

“Design is not the outcome. Design is the whole process. The outcome is the paper, the cup, the chair, the house, the tangible.”

“A meaningful design is one generated from data, from factors you are responding to. We need to speak a certain language, send a message, tell a story.”

“People felt they were in a community, rather than at one of those stuffy conferences. We managed to depart from buzzwords.”
